BT5K 2017: Chicago 04/23/2017

2017 BT5K Chicago

Team AJ

We will be walking again this year to Honor AJ Stauber!  AJ passed away peacefully November 25, 2016.

Please join Team AJ.  I am AJ's wife Jenny and we have a 4 year old son named Hunter.

AJ was diagnosed June of 2015 with an anaplastic astrocytoma grade 3 glioma brain tumor.  Our lives were turned upside down!  He was having allergy symptoms for about 2 months before he started with double vision.  That's when he went to the ER.  From that moment on our lives have not been the same.

He completed 5 1/2 weeks of radiation and chemo,  He handled it all well with no crazy side effects.  His vision and balance were effected by the tumors.  AJ continued oral chemo at home on and off for 6 months,  Although it made him extremely tired, he handled it pretty well.  Unfortunately he was never able to return to work.

July of 2016 AJ had the best MRI he ever had,  His tumor had shrunk so much even the doctors were shocked.  Then in August things were going down hill,, AJ was sick more and just not himself.

Labor day weekend, AJ was admitted to CDH for fluid built up in his brain.  After more testing we received devastating news that his tumor had spread throughout his brain and into his spine.  At this point, his doctor changed his diagnosis to a Glioblastoma grade 4.

AJ started radiation for the tumors in the spine,  he completed 2 1/2 weeks of radiation.  After that, he was ok for a week, then he was re admitted to CDH and had surgery to install a VP shunt to drain the fluid off his brain.

Since being home, he has been on Oral chemo and an IV chemo every 2 weeks. Although his MRI's are stable, his symptoms are getting worse.  Unfortunately the oral chemo is no longer an option.  His body is too weak to tolerate it,  For now we are just  enjoying the time we have.

Please consider joining our team or if you can't, make a donation to help fund further research to end this horrible cancer!

Thank You
