Each day 500 people will be diagnosed with a brain tumor. On May 16th, 2013, my mother, Sharon Elizabeth Smith, was one of those 500 people. Three years ago, on October 16th, 2015, my beautiful, loving, wonderful mother lost her valiant battle. This is why I will be participating in the American Brain Tumor Association’s Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K Run & Walk. Each year, the Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K Run & Walk provides critical funding for brain tumor research and for supportive patient care.
I am participating and fundraising to maintain and strengthen the critical resources that make such a profound difference in the lives of brain tumor patients and their families. As one of those families that has struggled with the reality of a Brain Cancer diagnosis, I feel as if this orgnaization provides much needed resources as well as community for those struggling with the reality of Brain Cancer.
This is the fifth year my family and friends are participating in the event. I am very much looking forward to the hope and support that this event inspires for my family, friends, and all participants. I plan on continuting to honor my mother and celebrate her life through supporting the American Brain Tumor Association's Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K Run & Walk.
