Please consider joining/supporting Team AbbVie for this year’s BT5K in NYC on Sunday, November 11th.
I am very excited to be participating for our 5th year in the Brain Tumor Association’s BT5K run in NYC to raise money and awareness for brain tumor research. I will be participating again this year with my company, Team AbbVie! This is AbbVie’s second year sponsoring a team and is now a Gold Sponsor for this event! If you are in the area, and would like to participate, we would love to have you join us!
I am running again this year in the spirit of "Choose to be happy!" to honor my brother, Ken's attitude while fighting his glioblastoma.
Let me explain: I had picked up a "Choose to be happy" bracelet at a local car wash and was wearing it one morning when I stopped in to see Ken. Ken had had a particularly difficult PT session that morning. His functionality was deteriorating and he was very angry. Angry at his disease, angry at his situation and just angry. He saw the bracelet, asked me to take it off to look at it closer. So, I took it off and Ken put it on. He wore the bracelet until his last day. Ken told me how much it helped him.
What Ken realized is that there was nothing he could do to change what was happening to him, but he could decide how he was going to approach each day. Ken chose to be happy with the time he had left.
We can all help patients choose to be happy by supporting them through this great organization and event!
I am running to support all those friends and co-workers who have had loved ones go through similar situations. And to raise money to help fund the research to find a cure and to provide important support services to patients and caregivers battling brain cancers.
