TEAM JIMBO was formed to celebrate my best friend, my HERO, MY BROTHER, Jim Parell, who is living with the devastating reality and side effects of a hemangioblastoma brain tumor and leptomeningeal brain cancer diagnosis. Jim underwent emergency surgery on Thanksgiving Day, 2001 in which only a portion of the brain tumor was removed, followed by what was then called a life-time dose of radiation treatment. In July 2014, Jim's brain tumor began to grow, this time pressing on his brain stem and causing neurological symptoms and underwent a 2nd round of radiation. These last 3-years have been emotionally, physically and spiritually challenging for Jim, Tinee & our family. MRI's monitor his condition and with the utmost gratitude I am able to say that as of today Jim's brain tumor and cancer remains "STABLE" -- our MOST favorite word!
YOU MAY REMEMBER that On October 2nd, 2016 Jim competed in and COMPLETED the NO NAME 5030 30K Trail Run in Cheeseboro National Park, Agoura, California, That was Jim's first competition since radiation treatment in exactly 2-years and his Lake Tahoe Ironman competition in exactly 3-years. Tears of gratitude and pride as Jimbo ran across the finish line! Race Director, Erica Gratton (www.solcalultrarunning.com) and Nick Johanson of Joi Cafe(www.joicafe.com) did a special tribute to Jim's inspirational accomplishment and lavished him with, love, hugs & healthy gifts!!
WELL, WHEN JIM RECEIVED the "ALL STABLE" DIAGNOSIS on August 7th, 2017 - his first words to Tinee was "I AM GOING TO RUN A 50K"! That is the Spirit with which JIMBO faces everyday! A true WARRIOR and INSPIRATION!
After his original life-changing diagnosis in 2001, Jim began to expand his life experiences to include Mountain Climbing, Marathons, Bike Racing and his ultimate atheletic love, Ironman Triathalons! In 2006, Jim married the romantic love of his life, Tinee, and her beautiful daughter, Samantha! The trio of Jim, Tinee & Samantha is an inspiring family love story!
Jim's re-diagnosis in 2014 left me feeling utterly powerless. Research made me acutely aware of how much still needs to be learned and developed for the treatment and cure of the 120- different types of brain tumors. I was with Jim and Tinee when a top doctor advised that Jim may be dependent on Clinical Trials should he require future treatment.
I believe that Jim, and the 70,000 Americans who will be diagnosed this year, will benefit from current and future research breakthroughs. This belief inspired me to participate in, AND COMPLETE, the American Brain Tumor Association’s Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K Walks:
NYC - November 8th, 2014 .... TEAM JIMBO raised $5,240!
Los Angeles - April 11th, 2015 .... TEAM JIMBO raised over $10,000!

TEAM JIMBO walks photos of the many Brain Tumor Warriors & Heroes, we have met along this journey, across each BT5K Finish Line! Our efforts are in honor of all who are affected by a Brain Tumor diagnosis.
TEAM JIMBO is so grateful for your overwhelming support and will be continuing our fundraising efforts and looking forward to participating in ABTA BT5K IN Los Angeles on April 9th, 2016 and in NYC in November 2016 in order to maintain and strengthen the critical resources that make such a profound difference in the lives of brain tumor patients and their families.
