Each day, 500 people will be diagnosed with a brain tumor. My younger sister, Dr. Kavitha, was one of those diagnosed with glioblastoma, one of the worst forms, a few years back. She had just started her residency when she was diagnosed. She ultimately lost the battle after a valiant fight for a couple years. By this time she had just completed her residency and realized her lifelong dream of becoming a Doctor. Unfortunately, she didn't get to live her dream for long. She lost her battle at the age of 34 leaving behind her husband and yound son, Sujith.
In memory of my sister and her battle with this evil cancer, I am determined to raise awareness of and to raise funds to find a cure for this deadly disease. ABTA is a great organization that is focused on doing just that. To honor my younger sister, I will be participating in the American Brain Tumor Association’s BT5K Breakthrough for Brain Tumors Run & Walk. Money raised by the BT5K will provide critical funding for brain tumor research and for supportive patient care.
