Right before Christmas of last year, my mother - the lovely Lilla Smerkanich - was diagnosed with a brain tumor. On January 4, she went in for a pinprick biopsy, and ended up having emergency surgery to remove the majority of a very aggressive tumor.
Six weeks later, we now know she had a Stage 4 Glioma, the remnants of which still remain in her brain to be treated with chemotherapy and radiation. She is still in the hospital with complications from her surgery.
Goes without saying that this period in my family's life is scary and sad. But I don't only want to be scared and sad, I want to do what I can to help. So I'll be participating in the American Brain Tumor Association's Breakthrough 5K in Pomona on April 9th.
I know, one way or another, Mom's going to get through this. And so are we. And, in the meantine, we'd so appreciate your support!
