Our 26 yo son, Alex, had a seizure on November 24, 2017. It was confirmed after MRI he had a 5x4 cm mass in his left frontal lobe. He had a total resection at Northwestern Hospital in the expert hands of Dr. Chandler on December 5, 2017. The pathology report diagnosed it as ANAPLASTIC ASTROCYTOMA grade 3 (AA 3), brain cancer! Quite a shock to the Early family for Alex showed no symptoms prior to seizure. Alex now has a great team with a neuro oncologist and radiation oncologist determining his next course of treatment. This AA 3 brain tumor has microscopic molecular tumor cells that need to be destroyed to prevent rapid regrowth, but at some time, it will resurface its ugly self again. He finished his 6 weeks of radiation therapy, now starts chemotherapy, by pill form, 6 cycles of 5 days on 23 days off. He will be monitored with MRI's throughout to watch for any changes. HIs first MRI post radiation was CLEAR/CLEAN of any tumor! Our first trophy! His body and mind have been so strong through this first course of treatment. We are so proud of him!
Our world has been rocked upside down with this cancer, and we want to do anything we can do to help the next family of a young adult/child diagnosed with brain cancer. Please help us and donate to a cause that is so close to our hearts. More research is necessary to determine cause, treatment, and support services for brain tumor victims.
We greatly appreciated the hugs, smiles, words of encouragement from family, friends, co workers and medical team.
Consider joining us to walk or run at the 2018 BT5k Chicago. Look for Team "Kicking AA for Alex".
Each day, 500 people will be diagnosed with a brain tumor. To show my support, I will be participating in the American Brain Tumor Association’s BT5K Breakthrough for Brain Tumors Run & Walk. Money raised by the BT5K will provide critical funding for brain tumor research and for supportive patient care.
You can support me in my efforts by making a donation to the American Brain Tumor Association.
