Friends & Family!
The Hellermann Family will be participating in the BT5K Chicago Breakthrough Walk/Run for the ABTA in memory of Paul. For those of you who don't know, Paul was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in August of 2015. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most dangerous and aggressive forms of brain cancer. GBM patients typically have short life expectancies and very few will live more than three years post-diagnosis. In the United States, brain cancer accounts for 1 in every 100 cancer diagnoses. It is estimated that 1 in 161 individuals born today will develop brain or nervous system cancer at some point in their lives.
Paul fought for 18 months. Paul had two craniotomies, six weeks of radiation, three different types of chemotherapy with several cycles of those chemos, he participated in a clinical trial, received an IV immunotherapy, suffered a stroke from side effects of treatment, and underwent emergency open heart surgery to remove blood clots from Chemotherapy. Paul fought so hard to beat GBM and we have to continue that fight for him. Paul fought his battle with GBM until February 9th, 2017.
The money raised for the ABTA Walk/Run goes to research to discover advances in treatments and possibly a cure. Paul was on the receiving end of these advancements and treatments and one day, we hope that there is a cure for Glioblastoma. There currently is no cure for glioblastoma. There hasn't been an advancement in treatment in over 10 years... Go Gray for Paul! Our goal for the 2019 walk/run is $25,000.
So what can you do?
