2019 BT5K Chicago

Dear Family and Friends:

This Spring we will be taking part in the American Brain Tumor Association BT5k Run/Walk in downtown Chicago. Our family has been part of this event for the past ten years to support our dear friend, Juliana Schafer, who was diagnosed with brain cancer 14 years ago. This year the walk and fundraising efforts have taken on a whole new meaning with Ned's recent diagnosis. We would love your support! Details below:

The BT5K event is on SATURDAY, APRIL 13th at Soldier Field Stadium. The program begins at 9am with Ned giving the "Suvirvor Speech", Juliana's daughter and cousin signing the national anthem, and some of our wilmette fitness friends leading the warm ups all on the main stage! The run starts at 9:30am, immediately followed by the walk.

Cancer affects so many of us, both directly or indirectly. Brain cancer is among the most fatal and awful forms of cancer, and needs additional funding for research and patient services. Most “breakthroughs” in brain cancer research and treatment in the last ten years (and grade IV glioblastoma brain cancer, in particular) have succeeded in extending patients’ lives by a mere matter of months. This is far from a cure. There is so much more to be done. This is true for research, for practice, and for those of us living with brain cancer. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE WE WANT TO DO!!

Please join Ned, Erin, Finnegan, Beckett, Eliza, Cecily at this year's 5k run/walk on the morning of Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Soldier Field. Help us support the nearly 700,000 people currently living with a brain tumor. You can join our team ("Smith Strong Team Hope", the "Team Hope" part in solidarity with the Schafer family's longtime team, "Team Hope") by clicking the "Join Our Team" button on the right.

Please also consider making a donation to the American Brain Tumor Association in support of our team’s efforts and the many researchers, doctors, nurses, and social workers who are working hard every day to help patients like Ned. Click the "Donate Now" button on the right. Thank you so much for support.

With love and appreciation,

Ned, Erin, Finnegan, Beckett, Eliza, and Cecily Smith
