Dear Friends & Family,
Each day, 500 people will be diagnosed with a brain tumor. To show my support, I will be participating in the American Brain Tumor Association’s Team Breakthrough Endurance program, by competing in the 2018 Tough Mudder. This will be my 4th event with the ABTA!! My event will be on June 9th, 2018, right here in Doswell VA! I will be running 5 miles along with 10+ obstacles to complete. I have been training, and I have to admit, the rings are not my friends, but I'm pushing through!!! Money raised will provide critical funding for brain tumor research and for supportive patient care.
Raising awareness and funds for brain tumor patients and their families has become a passion of mine since my father was diagnosed with a Stage 4 Glioblastoma in 2009. As many of you know, my daddy was my world, I was (and always will be) Daddy's girl through and through. It was a devastating turn for our entire family. I never imagined my dad being sick. Dad was an "iron man", living 25 months with a fatal diagnosis of 6 months. He loved life, loved his family, and loved being involved in the lives of so many around him. He is truly missed every single day. Dad went home in 2012 to his Heavenly Father, after a long battle. It's hard for me to say he "lost" the battle, because he surely gained victory in the arms of Jesus in the end. With my family of 5, at this time in our lives, we are not financially able to give in ways we would like. That is why I choose to support such an amazing organization, through my physical abilities. I am thankful each day, that God allows me to walk, run, workout, and play/teach my kids. Dad struggled mentally and physically, so I feel I can use my gifts of exercise to memorialize him and raise awareness for those currently going through the same journey we went through a few years ago. There have been so many advancements in research and treatments since Dad's journey that have enabled quality of life and increased life expectancies. I BELIEVE these donations make a differnce in the lives of so many individuals and families.
