Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for the Birdies for Bill Golf Outing. Bill Rohn was an amazing husband, father, family member and friend. He was a lifelong Elmhurst resident, proud graduate of York Community High School and Elmhurst College and a member of Visitation Parish. He was taken from us much too soon after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer. This is Bill's story.
In July 2012, Bill was rushed to the hospital after experiencing symptoms of what appeared to be a stroke. Within weeks, the diagnosis became clear: Bill had a brain tumor. The family banded together to decide the best course of action; Bill had so much to live for. He wanted to beat the odds and beat cancer. In October 2012, Bill underwent his first brain surgery. The doctors at Rush Hospital did all they could to remove the tumor, but the cancer had advanced to Stage 3. Bill had his second brain surgery in early 2014, with little success. Despite his best efforts, Bill lost his battle on April 24, 2014 surrounded by his family.
Bill truly loved his family. He also loved golf, politics, and the White Sox. Mary Kate carries on his love of golf. Shannon thrives on politics, and Sean loves the Sox. There is no better way to honor Bill's memory than to get together on the golf course. Peanuts and cigars are a must.
We are supporting the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) by raising funds for brain tumor research, as well as support and education programs for brain tumor patients and their families. The Rohn family has experienced first-hand the struggle and heartbreak caused by a brain tumor. We are fighting for a cure.
