Welcome to Jean's fundraising page for "Hans and Jean's Dream Team."
Thank you for checking out our project and for considering making a donation! We are thrilled to support the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) by raising funds for brain tumor ressearch, education, and other programs for brain tumor survivors and their families.
Our chosen activity, "Escape From Alcatraz" is quite an appropriate metaphor, as we swim to leave the confines of a prison for the shimmering shores with a "Ghirardelli Square" sign beckoning us. It's a harrowing event, both physically and mentally that parallels a journey many people take as they battle the effects of brain tumors.
I'm particularly thrilled to be part of a fundraising effort for research into treatment of brain tumors; twice in my life I've been the beneficiary of the newest technology. Quite literally, I owe my life to the recent technologies created to help treat people with brain tumors. Since my first diagnosis over 30 years ago, I've been teaching high school math and have had thousands of students pass through my classroom door. (Some of my former students are swimming with me this fall!) I've raised three wonderful children. I'm one of the rare people who can compare the very invasive surgical craniotomy with Gamma Knife surgery as I've had both. Brief descriptions of part of my journey are featured in my blog, www.diamondsinthelake.blogspot.com
Know that your donations to the ABTA will serve many people well.
